A I have been since the dawning of the human race I have been the formation of the shore I have long been the longing that gave sailors chase and I've stroked a many boatmen's oar B and it's many a man who have left their home for to sail across my skin and some I've delivered and some I've thrown and others I've suckled in C A Take my hand I'm a dancer take my hand and swing take my hand through the rolling of the tide take my hand I'm a mother take my hand I'm a king take my hand ebb and flowin' I'm a bride B and if ever ye mariners get the blues or fish monger grow paranoid oh on my honor I do swear to you that I'll keep an honest seaman employed C A and it's many a maiden who has looked unto me wherefore her answers to provide and it's many a secret I have held from her for there are no secrets to provide B For I'm only moving north to south and rolling from west to east I've tounged on the canyons and kissed river's mouths and I've offered the armies peace C A Let me author the poems of the centuries let me bring your family on home Oh raise your glasses and be kind to me for no one likes to drink alone C

about

San Benedito Beach, Melanie Beth Curran’s second full-length album, celebrates and mourns the real strains of an imaginary American century - its people, their joys, their beauty, and their profound disappointments.

At the peak of the new gilded age, Melanie Beth Curran makes fun of our nostalgia for a time and place that never was, but which she genuinely appreciates. Under the looming tension between a fascist hell or a just transition, Curran recognizes the need of American mythology for everyday survival, for just getting by.

This album is a new level of achievement for an artist finding her voice. On San Benedito Beach, Melanie Beth becomes a mature songwriter. These songs sound and feel familiar, paying homage to the traditions and artists that inspire her, but remain distinct and original.

Humorous and mournful, San Benedito Beach is a sweet and rocking record, marking the year we realized everything already changed a long time ago.

Melanie Beth Curran reminds us the beach can be a feeling, a balm, a truly freeing feeling. Sing. Dance. Cry. Sing. Scream. Sing.
